Match Reports
24/09/06 Lincoln Railway (Away) Won 7-0
Winterton Rangers Ladies started their Lincolnshire League campaign with a trip to Lincoln Railway with the match played at Lincoln Moorlands ground.
Within the 1st minute Rangers were 1-0 up when Charlotte Naylor on her debut cut in from the right and fired low passed the keeper.
Rangers never looked back after this and forced the play in the Lincoln half. The second goal came when Carrie Hancock was brought down inside the box and Lindsey Hughes slotted home the penalty.
With 20 minutes gone Winterton were cruising and the front pairing of Lindsey Hughes and Louise Langton peppered the Lincoln goal.
On 32 minutes Rangers were three up with the best move of the match, as Julie Ford won the ball in the Rangers half. Julie played the ball back to Lucy Smith who swept it out to right for Carina Middleton to run onto. Carina squared the ball into the area for Lindsey Hughes to side foot into net.
Jade Elston, working well on the left, crossed into the box and a good header from Julie Ford was well saved to win Rangers a corner.
More shots from Louise Langton, Kim Chambers, Jade Elston, Charlotte Naylor and Carrie Hancock kept the Lincoln keeper busy.
Half time 3-0 to Rangers and Lincoln Railway were doing well to keep the score down.
Five minutes into the second half and Lucy Smith broke from defence and with a great solo run brought a fine save from the keeper but Louise Langton was following up to score her first goal for Rangers. Julie Ford then hit the post before Jade Elston followed up a spilled shot to add the fifth.
As the Lincoln team tired in the heat, Rangers went on to score two more goals with Louise Langton adding her second and Lindsey Hughes grabbed her hatrick with a well taken solo effort.
Lincoln Railway only produced two shots on Rangers goal all game, so a comfortable start to the season for Rangers.
01/10/06 Wyberton (Away) Won 2-1
Winterton Rangers Ladies travelled to south of Boston for their Lincolnshire League game with Wyberton. After a torrential downpour before the kick off Winterton started well with early pressure producing 2 shots on goal from the edge of the box. Winterton again worked the ball well across the width of the pitch bringing their wingers Jade Elston and Charlotte Naylor into the game.
The half progressed with Wyberton rarely entering the Rangers half but with all the pressure and shots Rangers could not break the deadlock.
Half Time 0-0.
The second half continued as the first and finally on 55 minutes Lindsey Hughes sent Winterton into the lead with a fine individual goal.
More pressure from Rangers resulted in Louise Langton having a shot from outside the box which flew into the top of the net. 2-0
With Winterton well in control of the game a long ball from Wyberton caused
a mix up between keeper and defender and Wyberton were on the score sheet 2-1.
Wyberton pushed for an equaliser but Rangers held firm for the final eight minutes of the game.
Another encouraging performance but the girls now need to kill of a side when in front.
08/10/06 Gainsborough Trinity (Home) Won 3-1
Winterton Rangers Ladies made it three wins from three in the Lincolnshire Women’s League after a good win against a strong Gainsborough side.
Winterton had all the pressure in the early stages of the first half but had to wait until the 35 minute before they took the lead when a long diagonal ball from Lucy Smith in the Rangers defence caught Gainsboro napping and Jade Elston nipped in from the left to take her time and rifle the ball into net. Six minutes later Rangers were two up as Lindsey Hughes scored her fifth goal of the season.
Half Time 2-0
Gainsboro rallied after the break and within two minutes won a penalty for a dubious handball decision. The resulting penalty was fired over the top of the goal. This fired up Winterton who won themselves a penalty again for handball. Lindsey Hughes stepped up but her penalty was straight at the keeper who saved well.
Gainsborough then pulled a goal back as Rangers failed to kill the game and a hopeful ball into the penalty area was deflected into the Rangers net.
As Gainsboro pushed for an equaliser a curling shot from outside the area brought a great save out of Kat North in the Rangers net.
Ranger started to stretch the Trinity defence and Charlotte Naylor on the right met a through ball and shot across the keeper into the goal to seal the game for Rangers.
Final Score 3-1.
Ranger’s toughest game of the season so far but they were never really in trouble.
