Match Report (Winterton Rangers 5 - Yorkshire Amateur 0) 1sth April 2006 NCEL Div 1

Winterton entertained a Yorkshire Amateur side they played but two weeks ago at the Leeds based outfits Bracken Edge ground, Rangers came out 2-0 winners in a somewhat scrappy performance.

Pete Daniel made a few changes to the side that stunningly lost to Carlton last week. Richard White replaced Ben Simpson in goal, Marshall replaced Green at full back, Captain Steve Robinson returned at centre-back and Craig Sharpless replaced the suspended Haywood at left back.

Rangers pressed from the off, Whitehouse dominant on the left hit the byline in the 6min. pulling the ball back to Northen whose turn and shot forced a low save from Sinclair at is near post. It set the tone for the rest of the game.

On 13mins. Rangers took the lead. Yorks keeper drove the ball upfield and the defence pushed up after it, Danny Clarke headed the ball straight back over the oncoming defence for the quick witted Rob Northen to chase down before rounding the keeper and tapping home. 1-0

Whitehouse could have doubled the lead. On 18mins a shot from the edge skipped just wide and two minutes later when Northen produced an opening Whitehouse wanted a touch too many and the chance had gone.

Yorkshire Amateur rarely ventured into the Rangers half. And Winterton although dominant seemed a little lethargic.

On 26mins. It should have been two, Marshall ’s throw was headed back to him on the right, his cross was headed towards the near post where Palmer, half expecting a whistle lifted his shot into the keepers arms from4 yards out.

Three minutes later Palmer again went close. His drive at the far was deflected for a corner. The ball in was cleared to Whitehouse who ran into the box but when a pass was needed he shot at the keeper.

Then when the half was closing Palmer was sent racing goal wards but as the defender closed him down he pulled it back and curled his shot towards the far post but the keeper parried.

HALF TIME 1-0

The low key start to the second half gave the ‘Ammers’ a lift but it didn’t last long. A couple of strong challenges on Palmer  and Northen set the scene for a tackle from Dufton from behind that the ref gave him his second yellow and YA were down to ten men. 53mins.

Rangers stared to play with a little more urgency, and the game looked to have only one outcome. On 60mins. A ball from the left was met at the far post by a Rob Northen header that looped back over everyone and in at the far post to double Winterton’s lead. 2-0

Walmsley replaced Marshall and Palmer had the ball in the back of the net on 65mins but the ref had spotted a foul. Then Holt Replaced Whitehouse as Pete Daniel looked to rest legs for Tuesday’s visit to Lincoln .

Five minutes later and it was three. A Craig Sharpless driven cross was flicked on by Northen at the near post, Andy Catton headed home from close in at the far. 3-0 70mins

It was now a procession of chances. Steve Underwood unleashed a great strike that the keeper matched with a great save. 72mins.

75mins. Underwood capped an excellent performance with Rangers fourth goal when he met a cross from the left with a looping header over the keeper and under the bar. 4-0

77mins. Mark Dale replaced Rob Northen.

80mins. Palmer ghosted in at the near to tap home but an offside flag again took away the ex-Bridlington striker.

84mins. Winterton were using the extra man really well, Holt and Palmer linked with the midfield in an excellent passing move, Dale on the left drifted a great cross to Catton at the far post but his header skimmed the wrong side of the post.

89mins And Rangers made it five when incisive passing found Dale coming in from left, as he reached the corner of the 18 yard box he rifled the ball low into the far corner for his 1st goal for the club.

Final Score 5-0
