Match Report (South Normanton 1 - Winterton Rangers 2) 14th December 2004 Wilkinson Sword Rd 2

Winterton booked their place in the next round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy with an extra-time win at South Normanton in this second round tie.

Rangers fell behind on the half hour when the home centre half Danny Welch curled a free kick into the top corner to give the home side the lead. It was against the run of play in a somewhat scrappy first half. Although South Normanton could have extended their lead three minutes later when another deadball caused consternation in the Rangers box before Lindsey cleared off the line.

Winterton drew level on 41mins when Hudson found Michael banks at the far post, where he struck home after drawing the keeper with his first touch.

The second half gave Rangers numerous chances to take the lead but they couldn't convert the potential. It nearly cost them when Plant was adjudged to handled in the box on 79mins. The resultant penalty was awful, Nouril stabbed it straight at the keeper.

Rangers sub Barry Nicol had two glorious chances to win it but squandered both from inside the box.

Winterton got the winning goal on 95 mins when a long throw from the left found its way to the far post where Dean Wilson converted from close in. The home side, having used up their subs, lost another player to injury and had to continue with only 10 men. Rangers never looked in trouble from then and could have finished out of sight with better finishing.

Final Score 1-2
