Rangers
welcomed back Andy Holt and New signing from North Ferriby Rob Northern to the
side for this FA Vase first round tie. Against Northern
Winterton
started the game assuredly, controlling all the play from the kick off with
measured possession and probing passes that Barnwell and Northern’s movement
allowed them. Jamie Barnwell had two early chances pulled back for offside as he
probed the Guisborough back four, inside the first 5mins.
When the
continued pressure won Rangers a corner, Chris Keel met the cross into the box,
but his header went over the bar.12mins. Three minutes later Barnwell tested the
keeper again before finally breaking the deadlock on 16mins. Rob Northern’s
jinxing run into the box on the right before finding Barnwell who fired into the
corner. 1-0
Rangers
continued to press; Morley and Holt produced another chance for Barnwell, which
the keeper cleared away. Keel connected with a corner with a header that looped
over.
On
26mins it was 2-0 Rob Northern latching onto the ball in the box and firing home
for his debut goal for Rangers. 2-0
On the
half hour of a one sided first half, Rangers Keeper Simpson lofted a ball
towards Barnwell he knocked the ball onto Rob Northern who controlled the ball
on his chest and volleyed just over the bar.
Guisborough didn’t have a shot on goal until the 39min. and that was straight at Ben Simpson.

Rangers
replaced
The
second half continued like the first. Northern raced into the box a minute after
the restart to fire into the side netting. But Guisborough had come out
fighting, their play more determined, closing out the midfield dominance
Winterton had enjoyed.
On
61mins. Guisborough grabbed one back. A ball into the box saw Simpson try to
collect through a crowd of players. The ball fell loose and although Robinson
blocked the initial shot, Guisborough captain Ray woodhouse fired into the roof
of the net. 2-1
The game
became more of a battle, But rangers were still most likely to score. On 71mins.
they did just that. Northern won a throw through persistence. The long throw was
met by Holt who headed on, to a defender who missed his clearance. Mark
Whitehouse took a step inside on the edge of the box before curling the ball
into the bottom corner. 3–1
Daniel
introduced Sewell for the tiring Northern 75min.
On
76mins, Rangers gave the ball away in midfield, Guisborough drove into the box
and shot but a great block by Green cleared the danger.
Haywood
replaced Woodhouse on 85mins. Rangers
closed the game out once again on top with chances for Morley and Barnwell
scrambled away.
